About Us

Thursday Matinee began as Sydney Bollinger's passion project. She started Thursday Matineee as a fortnightly newsletter, wanting a more informal, conversational place to share thoughts, ideas, and deep-dives into film, TV, and books. Since issue no. 1 in August 2021, Thursday Matinee has grown from a single person's project to something much more vibrant and collaborative.

Now, the flagship newsletter is released weekly. Each issue revolves around a specific theme and is anchored by a feature essay. Some issues include a relevant mini-essay or Screen Break, a short book recommendation feature written by MLIS student and reader extradonaire Kati Bowden.

In February 2022, Thursday Matinee brought on Nuha Hassan as our official film critic. Reviews of current film and TV releases are published weekly.

In March 2022, copywriter and pop culture writer Rebecca Holland was added to the team as a contributing writer.

Moving forward, Thursday Matinee hopes to be a place for creative, interesting writing on pop culture, the entertainment industry, and literature. Additionally, we plan to strengthen our focus on writing about environmental film and sustainability in filmmaking and production.

We are currently accepting pitches. We are able to publish one guest newsletter per month.

If you're interested, send an email to Sydney at hello@thursdaymatinee.com with your pitch and two writing samples (they do not need to be from film outlets – anything is fine).

If we're interested in working with you, we'll be in touch about upcoming themes and potential collaborations.
